Winter

Santa Lucia is located in the Alta Valtellina region, home to 220 km of ski slopes in San Colombano, Bormio, Livigno and Santa Caterina, which offer alpine skiing at all levels.

Snowboarding fans will find well-equipped snow parks in Bormio and Livigno.
For Nordic ski lovers there are a further 80 km of snow covered slopes in the woods of Isolaccia, Santa Caterina, Bormio and Livigno, where one may spend hours of serenity in the outdoors.

For non-skiers we recommend pleasant walks in the village or perhaps snowshoeing in the National Stelvio Park.
For a health and wellness vacation there are three centers of thermal baths located in Bormio: Bormio Terme, Bagni Vecchi and Bagni Nuovi.

A part from great skiing consider other interesting winter sports and activities:

  • Mountain treks with snowshoes in Stelvio national park.
  • Ice skating at Bormio’s ice rink
  • Outdoor skating at Santa Caterina
  • Beautiful 2,3,5,8,10 and 15 km cross country skiing tracks through the panoramic Santa Caterina country side.
  • Bernina Express: the little red train part of UNESCO heritage that climbs the mountain up to 2300mt
  • Sledging with huskies at the nearby Arnoga village

Summer

In the summer we recommend various walking excursions in the spectacular nearby mountains of Tresero, Cevedale, Cima Piazzi and Zebrù, as well as less rigorous trails in the Reit, Vallecetta and Monte Scale.

The Paluaccio di Oga nature reserve may also be of interest in the summer. It is located close to Forte Venini and the Magliavacca plain in Santa Caterina. In the early 1900’s patients suffering from anemia were treated in the large medical pavilion here, benefitting from its thermal waters rich in iron. In this area Bergamasco sheepdogs would herd large flocks of 1000 or more sheep and cattle, before reaching the high mountain pastures.

Cycling fans will find many alpine passes including that of the Stelvio Pass. Here there are also many other itineraries and paths indicated for mountain bikers.

For those who enjoy hiking and quiet we suggest the Stelvio National Park, where one may find many different types of animals such as chamois, deer, steinbock (mountain goats), and eagles.

Bormio Golf offers a 9-hole course, ideal for those who enjoy this sport during a mountain holiday.
Those who prefer a vacation of rest and relaxation may like to visit the warm thermal baths of the Bagni Vecchi dating back to the 15th Century, as well as those of the Bagni Nuovi, from the 19th Century. Also of interest is the new Bormio Terme, only 2 km from Santa Lucia, which also offers therapeutic treatments, a new wellness center, and an entire area dedicated to families with children including waters slide and outdoor pools.

To complete your holidays visit the historic center of the medieval town of Bormio. There you may visit its civic museum, as well as its many pubs and cellars offering Braulio, a locally produced bitter. Consider also taking a journey to Saint Moritz, Switzerland with the “little red train” of the Bernina which departs from Tirano.

Here are some suggestions for your summer vacation in the mountains:

  • trekking routes and MTB Alta Valtellina
  • Mountain bike courses for adults and children
  • Nordic walking
  • Summer skiing at the Stelvio pass
  • Visits to shelters and huts
  • Ice skating indoor
  • Climb by cable car
  • Sport fishing lakes Cancano
  • Horse riding lessons and swimming lessons
